Helpful Tips For Maintaining Your Air Compressor

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

If you own an air compressor, you are going to want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to make sure that it lasts as long as possible. To help you do that, you will want to make use of the following helpful tips.

Keep The Air Intake Vents Clean

It is important to make sure that you are not allowing the air intake vents to become clogged with dirt and dust. Therefore, you will want to take it upon yourself to clean the vents with a damp rag or a vacuum hose. This is especially important if you use your air compressor in an area that has a lot of saw dust in the air. There is no rule regarding how often you have to clean the air intake vents. Basically, whenever you notice that the vents are starting to collect dust or debris is when you need to clean them.

Check And Tighten The Fasteners

You will want to check and tighten all of the bolts, nuts, and clamps regularly in order to keep your air compressor in good working order. This is something you might want to do once a week if you use your air compressor most days out of the week. However, if you rarely use your air compressor, you should be able to get away with just checking all of the fasteners before you turn it on.

Clean The Fuel Tank Annually

This only applies if you have a gas powered air compressor. If you have one, you will want to drain the gas tank about once a year. Use a wet dry vacuum to suction all of the remaining fuel that was left behind. This is also the perfect time to change out the fuel filter. Once you have done all of that, you can add fresh fuel to the tank.

Check The Safety Shut Off Switch

It is important to make sure that the safety shut off switch is always in perfect working order. The specific manner in which you will need to test this switch will vary according to the model of your air compressor. Therefore, you will need to read through your owners manual for instructions on how to do this. Regardless of how it is done, it is a safety check that you will want to conduct at least once a week.

With those helpful tips in mind, you should have a much easier time making sure that your air compressor is in perfect working order. For assistance, talk to a professional like kruman equipment.
